On any given day I will switch between multiple projects on a variety of different segments of our business. With Foodservice News, the Charlie Awards, and now our new digital media property and annual conference, Food On Demand, it is always something a little different. That, however, is what makes it fun. In most cases each of the different segments are related in some way—there is a synergy that runs through everything here.
In addition to the production of FSN on a monthly basis, the last couple of months have included a ton of work on our Food On Demand Conference, which will be held in Chicago on April 1 and 2, and the annual Charlie awards, which is now part of Foodservice News.
As you can see from the coverage in this issue, the Charlie Awards was a spectacular event. With this being my first Charlie Awards, I have to say it was well worth every minute of work! Editor Nancy Monroe and her team working alongside Sue Zelickson deserve kudos for another great celebration. We had record attendance and packed the Pantages Theater on January 27. It was fun. It was exciting. In every way, it was a celebration of the foodservice community.
I also had the opportunity to meet with a local Minneapolis-based company that is working with our Food On Demand Conference and making some serious waves in the food delivery market. That company is Foodsby, and they have differentiated themselves from the pack by focusing on lunch delivery for office professionals. Foodsby can help restaurants reach new customers, provide daily marketing and support, and allows operators to prepare and deliver during off-peak hours. They are providing a solution for restaurant operators that allows food delivery to work around the restaurant’s schedule. That strategy is paying off. They are growing by leaps and bounds with plans to expand into an additional 17 markets in 2019.
If you are interested in learning about the food delivery market and what restaurants need to do in this constantly changing environment, I encourage you to check out our website at
