Schwan’s Edwards Dessert Kitchen is slated to open in Minneapolis’ North Loop, across Washington Avenue from Red Rabbit. Designed to attract late-night traffic, the patisserie will feature pies, cookies and ice cream.
The new location for Los Ocampo Express will be on the second level of downtown Minneapolis’ City Center mall at 40 South 7th Street. The skyway version will serve street-style tacos like the non-express versions of the restaurants in both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
A new Italian restaurant, The Bungalow Club, has opened at 4300 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, with Andrew Kraft in the kitchen. Kraft was the longtime chef at Grand Cafe (before the business was sold to Jamie Malone). Joining Kraft are his brother-in-law Jeremiah Dittmann and former Grand Cafe colleague Sam Rosen.
Korean fried chicken franchise Bonchon is moving into the vacated Uptown Davanni’s space and Dinkytown’s Vescio’s. Openings are planned for this summer. According to the Mpls/St. Paul Business Journal, both Bonchon locations are being financed by restaurateur Sam Zheng, who owns buffet concepts, including Royal Buffet in Richfield. Marshall Nguyen of the Edina-based Caspian Group, facilitated the deal.
With a newly launched franchise program, Crisp & Green has two units in the works, one in Dinkeytown and a second one in the 50th and France area of Edina. The concept has restaurants open in Wayzata and Minneapolis.
Three-year-old Breaking Bread Café on West Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis reopened in early May. The restaurant is part of Appetite for Change, a community-based nonprofit whose mission is to use food to build health, wealth and social change.
The popular Rose Street Patisserie (sister of Patisserie 46) is opening a St. Paul location at the corner of Selby and Snelling. The bakery extraordinaire is expected to open this summer.
