Restaurant Openings

Bacon Social House out of Denver is opening at the end of June in the Canopy by Hilton hotel at 708 Third Street South in Minneapolis. This is the first location for the chain outside of Colorado. The eatery/bar serves made-from-scratch fare and is positioned to transition through all dayparts.

Umbra, a contemporary French-with-a-Minnesota-twist restaurant, held its grand opening in early May, also at the Canopy by Hilton hotel. Awarding-winning chef Kevin Aho was recruited to design the menu and run the restaurant.

After debuting last fall at the Keg & Case Market in St. Paul as a food truck, Pimento Jamaican Kitchen has finally found a stationary home inside the food hall. This is the second location in the Twin Cities, the first is on Eat Street (Nicollet Avenue) in Minneapolis.

Amy’s Cupcake Shoppe, located on Mainstreet in Hopkins, now has a store on the first floor of the Southdale Mall in Edina. The daily selection of cupcakes is posted on Instagram.

Smashburger is the latest restaurant to open at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport. The national chain will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in Concourse C.

Minneapolis Cider Co., co-founded by Jason Dayton, David O’Neill and Rob Fisk as an assignment for their U of M entrepreneurship program, has opened as a taproom at 701 Ninth Street S.E. (near the intersection of East Hennepin  Avenue and I-35W), according to the Pioneer Press. In addition to three blends of cider, food pairings will be available from Red Table Meats, Baker’s Field Bread and Bare Honey.

Pig Ate My Pizza—the pizza arm of the Travail dynasty—has opened under its new name, Pig Ate My Pizza Kitchen + Brewery, in the former Travail space at 4124  W. Broadway Ave. in Robbinsdale. Along with a creative line-up of pizza and beer, diners will enjoy a screened porch, which sometimes in Minnesota beats the fresh-air patio. It’s sister restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota BBQ, also opened in May to long lines.

Taco-centric Prieto is scheduled to open this month in the short-lived Hasty Tasty location on Lyndale and Lake.
