WFF Change Maker's Big FSN Change




As the old saw goes: We have some good news and some bad news (for us). First the good news: FSN Events Editor Laura Michaels will be recognized by the Women’s Foodservice Forum as one of the food industry’s rising stars—a Change Maker—during the group’s 30th anniversary celebration March 10-13 at its annual Leadership Development Conference in Dallas.

As a Change Maker, Michaels will participate in ongoing research surveys and focus groups that track the participants’ career goals and trajectories. This will help WFF identify key factors that influence success early in a woman’s career and provide participating companies with greater insight into how to most effectively support the development of young women leaders. 

Change Makers will also receive permanent membership in WFF, allowing access to mentorship opportunities, plus tools to advance their careers and expand their network.

“It’s an incredible feeling to know your company values your work and recognizes your contributions—and then thinks enough of your impact to want it highlighted by an organization as influential as WFF,” Michaels said about the honor. “I’ve been fortunate to work for and with accomplished, intelligent women throughout my career, and with men whose mindsets are rooted in inclusiveness, but I also know that’s not the case for far too many women—which is why WFF’s efforts are so important.”

And now for our sad news: The WFF isn’t the only one who saw Michaels’ leadership skills. As of April 1, Michaels is taking over Foodservice News’ sister publication, Franchise Times, as editor. For the past two years she’s been doing triple duty as both managing editor for the national franchise publication and covering events for Foodservice News and reporting for Food On Demand. She will now be dedicating her attention full time to Franchise Times. And although she’s still in the same building, we will miss her photographic memory of all-things culinary in the greater Twin Cities area. 

You’ll still see her dining around town and checking out the new restaurants and bars. Only now she won’t have a reporter’s notebook and camera in hand.
