Industry Ink: Starbucks Barista Maggie Higgins
Starbucks Barista Maggie Higgins wears her spiritual side like a suit of many colors. On her upper back is a stylized sun, a masculine sign. She wears her feminine side, however, on her sleeve. On her upper arm, a polka-dotted, swim-suited goddess frees herself from the troubled waters. Below, a golden fish swims through the waves and above, another goddess is depicted in a Native American headdress that symbolizes the divine energy of the moon. On the inside of her arm is the saying: “The river delights to lift us free, if only we dare let go.” The entire sleeve, plus the design on her left arm, is done in a faded watercolor effect.
“I wanted it to be the night sky,” she says. It reminds her to go with the flow, even when her employer, the Starbucks inside Macy’s at Rosedale Center, gets backed up with demands for endless cups of coffee.
