Applications for Powderhorn Park Event

The same organization that has attracted 20,000 art lovers to the Powderhorn Art Fair every summer for the past 28 years is gearing up for its newest artistic endeavor—the Powderhorn Culinary Arts Show, Saturday, October 19, from noon to 5 p.m. in Powderhorn Park (15th Avenue South).

Described as “a food competition for culinary geniuses of all backgrounds,” the event pits the highly accomplished home chef against professionals in five categories, according to Tabitha Montgomery, executive director of the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association, whose community programs benefit from the proceeds of the events. There’s a junior competition as well for kids ages 13-17.

The application process to this invitation-only competition is open now through June 3. Applicants can sign up in the following categories: dessert, regional cuisine, cultural cuisine, specialty cuisine and nonalcoholic beverages. The fee for professionals (adults) is $25 and $10 for juniors. To apply go to www.ppna.org/culinaryartshow
