Faces+Places To Know: Publisher Experiences First of Many Firsts



As the new guy here at Foodservice News, I expect I will experience several “firsts” over the next several months. This last month I was able to experience my first MN Hospitality Conference and Expo. I had several people ask what I thought of the show. My answer was, “I loved it ... however I don’t really have any previous hospitality expos to compare it to.” That said, I have been to more shows/expos and conventions than I can count in my 16-year media career, and in that context I would still give the MN Hospitality Expo high marks. The traffic was good, the mood was upbeat, the education opportunities were plentiful and there was food! Foodservice News and the Minnesota Restaurant Association have worked together for many years, and I look forward to growing the partnership even further in 2019!

 

I was also able to experience another first—Costco. Actually, it was not my first Costco visit, but it was my first Costco Business Center visit.  I had the opportunity to tour the new business center here in Minneapolis and sit down with Assistant General Manager Tim Habermann and Marketing Manager Mark Gonzales. Costco Business Center is different than the traditional Costco you’re used shopping at. For one thing, it caters to the foodservice, convenience store and professional office industries. For restaurants, the selection includes everything from commercial appliances to aisles of paper supplies and essentials for any restaurant. I suspect that once the word gets out to the local restaurant community that there is another resource for them, there will be some very happy restaurant operators!
