Xcel Energy named Leah Piotraschke for the position of associated product manager, responsible for its foodservice equipment program. Piotraschke will oversee the company’s electric and natural gas foodservice equipment rebate portfolio, including the rebate processing and program strategies. She also will evaluate ways to make improvements for long-term energy savings for Xcel Energy customers.
Minneapolis’ North Loop was featured in The Wall Street Journal’s Neighborhood Watch feature in its weekend magazine in late August. Restaurants featured were Bachelor Farmer, plus its Marvel Bar and Spoon and Stable. Although it didn’t mention the restaurant inside, the Hewing Hotel got a nod as well.
It’s Greek to Me by Athena, the almost 40-year-old Mediterranean restaurant at Lake and Lyndale in the Lyn-Lake neighborhood closed abruptly in early September. Husband and wife team, Nick and Athena Karos, took over from the original owners, but were unable to make a go of it in a tough restaurant economy for that corner. Our fondest memory of the restaurant is the superior service and food they provided for the last two Jungle Theater fundraisers. But, according to their website, they are still interesting in doing catering from a new location.
That loud, brash chef, Guy Fieri, is opening his fried chicken chain, Chicken Guy, inside the upscale food court in Mall of America in 2020. The Diners, Drive-ins and Dives star is selling chicken tenders with 22 sauce choices. According to the Pioneer Press, the recipe calls for fresh lemon juice, pickle brine and buttermilk. The four other units, including one inside Disney World in Orlando.
Centro and Popol Vuh are nominees for Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurant list. Popol Vu, the fine-dining sister in the duo who share a space in Northeast Minneapolis, is no stranger to awards. The James Beard awards also recognized it as a Best New Restaurant semi-finalist. The top 10 list was released after our deadline, but check our blog for updates.
