Charlie Awards: Kickoff Is One Giant Step for Foodkind




How do we get from no nominations to a stage packed with Charlie Awards winners? Giant steps, people, giant steps. The first of which is coming up on Monday, September 16, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Finnegans Brew Co.’s private dining space on South 5th Avenue in Minneapolis. 

That is the official kick-off party and the start of the nomination process for 15 categories, ranging from Outstanding Chef to a new one, Outstanding Coffeehouse. You can find information on the categories and requirements by clicking on the Charlies link on the Foodservice News website. 

This is your opportunity to nominate your peers. So often foodservice workers are the ones doing all the heavy lifting, cooking for fundraisers, competing in charity competitions, serving their specialties at galas. This is your chance as a community to celebrate yourselves. 

Just like the Charlies surrounds its award announcements in glitzy entertainment, the kickoff is bringing you more than just a paper ballot to fill out. 

Last year’s Outstanding Caterer, Chowgirls Killer Catering, is generously providing delicious snacks, along with the latest seasonal offerings from Finnegans brewery. Society Insurance is buying the first round and US Foods is donating the food. 

In honor of the Charlies Co-Founder Sue Zelickson’s birthday, last year’s Outstanding Pastry Chef Christina Kaelberer of Edwards Dessert Kitchen is baking a special cake. And, really, who doesn’t want to be on hand to wish Sue a happy birthday? Plus we’ll be listening to the playlist curated by a past Outstanding Chef winner Jamie Malone.

In addition to networking, we’ll have a short panel and presentation on how your restaurant can benefit from the newest trends in food and management. Keep an eye on your inbox for more information.
