Meet the 2020 Charlies Hosts
On stage hosts, WCCO's Jason DeRusha and Kim Johnson, and Brian "BT" Turner, the dramatic voice of god from the back of the theater.
Foodservice News is happy to welcome back Jason DeRusha as host for the 2020 Charlie Awards, along with his WCCO morning co-anchor Kim Johnson. This is DeRusha’s third time giving his take on the foodservice community from the Pantages’ pulpit, and Johnson's first.
Both DeRusha and Johnson are award-winning TV journalists and will bring a sense of fun and engagement to their duties as cohosts, just as they do every day as co-anchors of the WCCO-TV 4 morning show.
Johnson recently hosted the Minnesota Media + Publishing Association’s annual Excellence Awards. She has earned three Emmy Awards and the Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her stellar reporting. Johnson received bachelor of arts degrees in journalism, women’s studies and political science from the University of Minnesota. After graduation, she worked at stations in Duluth, Green Bay and The Quad Cities in Iowa and Illiniois.
DeRusha graduated from the University Honors Program at Marquete University with a political science and broadcast communication degree, magna cum cum laude. In addition to co-anchoring WCCO 4News This Morning with Johnson, he is a co-anchor on WCCO Mid-Morning with Heather Brown each weekday. His “DeRusha Eats” segment was nominated in 2015 for a James Beard Award for Broadcast Journalism. He is also the food editor for Minnesota Monthly magazine.
And serving for the ninth time as our “voice of god” is Brian “BT” Turner, a voice actor and the former longtime rock DJ at Cities 97 and at the former K-TWIN. BT was onboard from the very first Charlies and it wouldn't seem like a Charlies show without his deep melodic voice.
Come join the celebration, Sunday, Feb. 9, starting at 3:30 p.m. Your $30 ticket entitles you to the awards ceremony with entertainment and surprises, plus the Afterparty next door at Seven Steakhouse & Sushi. For tickets call 612-767-3229 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
