Coffee Talk: Twin Cities News

We’ve heard of restaurants going to the dogs, but not to the cats. But now the Mpls./St. Paul Business Journal is reporting that Café Meow’s owners, Danielle Rasmussen and Jessica Burge, have signed a lease for space in the retail strip center near 23rd and Hennepin that also includes Pizza Hut and Red’s Savoy. One area of the café will be stocked with rescue cats and kittens that can be adopted, while the other area will serve coffee and tea. We can only hope a copy cat does this for puppies.

Are you ready for some football? The Minneapolis City Council has approved a resolution that will allow bars near U.S. Bank Stadium to stay open until 4 a.m. for the February 2-4 weekend of the Super Bowl. Get ready to hear some noise.

Great Wolf Lodge MN is hosting hiring events at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott November 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The lodge/waterpark with numerous restaurants will be located near Mall of America in Bloomington.

Eric and Kari Grittner, along with their son Tom, have opened Tillie’s Farmhouse on Cleveland Avenue in St. Paul. The restaurant, formerly Trotter's Cafe, serves made-from-scratch seasonal dishes.

Five Watts opened a second location, in Northeast Minneapolis just off the I-35W offramp and East Hennepin Avenue. In addition to unique coffee offerings, this location will serve beer, wine and "low-proof cocktails," plus food, according to its website. The original location is in the Kingfield neighborhood.

Closed: Two-year-old Cien Tacos has disconnected its phone line and emptied its storefront in Woodbury. The Triple Rock Social Club, a bar and music venue in Minneapolis, is closing the third week of November after a 19-year run. Management announced its plans via a Facebook posting. Pepitos, a mainstay Mexican restaurant in south Minneapolis, may be the next to close its doors, due to the owner's failing health, losing its liquor license and back taxes being owed, according to City Pages.
