Toby Tournament Supports Next Wave of Students
Shooting -14, the team of Brett Guthmiller, Dave Collins (not pictured) and Joe and Adam Klosterman win the 2018 Toby Tournament.
The Minnesota Valley Country Club became Toby Tournament Central on August 13 as 36 teams of golfers took the course for the 33rd annual event to raise money for hospitality and culinary education scholarships. Zach Weisman, chairman of the Toby Committee, said since its inception in 1986 the event has raised more than $500,000 to provide scholarships to 300-plus Minnesota hospitality students through The Toby Landgraf Foundation.
This year the committee has five scholarship partners through which it distributes funds raised from the tournament: the Minnesota License Beverage Association, the University of Wisconsin Stout, the American Culinary Federation Minneapolis Chef’s Chapter, the Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation and the Upper Midwest Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America.
The tournament is named for Toby Landgraf, an equipment rep. and co-owner of Vader and Landgraf Inc. who died in 1985 and is remembered for his passion and commitment to education.
