Dame It! Fundraiser Celebrates Women Chefs
There was wine, women and songs from a female DJ’s playlist. There was also hedonistic food prepared by some of the top chefs in the Twin Cities who just happen to be women. Proceeds from the Minnesota chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier fundraiser, held at the Lowry Social on Hennepin Avenue April 24, will go toward scholarships for culinary students and the youth gardening project at Urban Roots.
On hand to greet guests and introduce the vendors and chefs was Food Network’s Amy Thielen, whose show, "Heartland Table," focuses on Midwestern cooking and culture. She’s also the author of four cookbooks.
A silent auction kept attendees busy—when they weren’t sampling such gourmet treats as fresh vegetables and dips from Third Bird, Two Gingers whiskey or meringues filled with poached rhubarb and hazelnut praline from The Salty Tart. Celebrated chef Brenda Langton autographed copies of her cookbook, while also passing out samples.
Among the items up for grabs at the silent auction were a dinner for three with Star Tribune restaurant reviewer Rick Nelson, culinary jewelry, a fishing trip, and a two-hour rental of a Dames husband for handyman-related work.
