‘Taste Around’ Supports Culinary Scholarships, Urban Roots

The spotlight is on women chefs later this month as the Minnesota chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier hosts what it’s calling Dame It, a “taste around” with small plates from several noted Twin Cities chefs and restaurateurs.

They’re taking over D’Amico Catering’s newest venue, Loring Social (1629 Hennepin Ave. S, Minneapolis), on Sunday, April 24, where from 2-5 p.m. attendees can sample dishes from featured chefs Carrie Summer and Lisa Carlson of Chef Shack; Brenda Langton of Spoonriver; Michelle Gayer of Salty Tart; Jamie Malone of Brut; Kylene and Mel Gust of GYST; Anna Christoforides of Gardens of Salonica, and Kim Bartmann of Barbette, Pat's Tap and Bryant-Lake Bowl.

Dames of Wine, led by Nikki Erpelding of The Winebow Group, will pour 24 wines from around the world. Serving as guest host is Amy Thielen of the Food Network’s “Heartland Table” and author of “The Midwestern Table.”

Open to the public, the event doubles as a fundraiser for culinary student scholarships, long a focus for the Les Dames professional group of women in food, beverage, and hospitality, and for Urban Roots, a St. Paul-based youth gardening project.
