Restaurants Support No Kid Hungry with Flavor Tasting Event
No snacking beforehand.
That’s some sound advice for guests heading to Muse on Thursday, May 14. That’s when the Minnesota Restaurant Association will take over the Minneapolis event center (107 3rd Ave. No., Minneapolis) for its aptly named Flavor tasting event.
In its second year, Flavor will “showcase the greatness of the MRA and its member restaurants,” says Carrie Burinda, MRA member services manager.
For $45, guests will enjoy menu samples from several of the state’s most popular restaurants, including: Murray’s, Parma 8200, 5-8 Club, Lake Elmo Inn, Pizza Luce, Acapulco Restaurante Mexicano, Big Bowl, Tado Steakhouse, Pazzaluna, The Piggy BBQ, Salsa a la Salsa, David Fong’s, The Launch Bar and Grill at Grand Casino Hinckley, Key’s Café, Le Town Talk, Seven, La Loma Tamales and The Loop.
Summit and Lift Bridge breweries will provide a selection of beer, with wine tastings courtesy of Chateau Ste. Michelle and Chankaska Creek. St. Paul distillery 11 Wells will share its craft spirits.
During the event top bartenders from four local restaurants will show their skills in a Master Mixologist competition, using a secret ingredient to create a specialty cocktail. Colin Weaver from The Lowry will defend his title against Matt Bailey of Libertine, Josh Loewenhagen of Red Cow-North Loop and Brian Stanley of La Belle Vie. One lucky attendee will join judges Stephanie Hansen and Julia Cobbs from myTalk 107.1 to choose the winner.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, with supporting local chef Seth Bixby Daugherty serving as the event’s emcee.
“Supporting Share Our Strength was a natural fit,” says Burinda. She also noted several MRA restaurants will participate in Dine Out for No Kid Hungry in September to raise additional funds for the organization, which connects kids in need to effective nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals and teaches low-income families to cook healthy, affordable meals through Cooking Matters.
